For the treatment of fascioliasis (infestations of mature and immature Fasciola hepatica) in cattle and sheep. It is also effective against adult larval infestations of Haemonchus contortus in cattle and sheep and Haemonchus placei, Oesophagostomum radiatum and Bunostomum phlebotomum in cattle. Hepanil 34 should not be regarded as a broad spectrum anthelmintic.
Withdrawl Period
Milk: Hepanil 34 should not be administered to lactating cows whose milk is for human consumption.. Meat: 60 days.
Composition
A bright orange-red solution for injection containing Nitroxynil Injection BP (Vet) 34% w/v.
Packaging
100ml, 250ml and 1000ml multidose vials.
Dosage
By subcutaneous injection. The standard dosage is 10mg nitroxynil per kg bodyweight, i.e. 1.5ml of Hepanil 34 per 50kg bodyweight for the treatment of fascioliasis and certain roundworm infestations. Sheep: In case of an outbreak of fascioliasis, each sheep in the flock should be injected immediately the presence of the disease is recognised. Treatment should be repeated as necessary throughout the period of infestation, at intervals of not less than one month. Where pastures are fluke infested, routine preventative dosing should be carried out at intervals of not less than one month, having regard for such factors as the past disease history of the farm etc. Cattle: Both infected and in-contact animals should be treated, not more frequently than once per month. The treatment of cattle helps to reduce the contamination of pastures where fascioliasis is endemic or certain roundworm occurrence is evident. Dairy cows should be treated at drying off (at least 15 days before calving).
Contra-indication
Hepanil 34 should not be regarded as a broad spectrum anthelmintic. Ewes in advanced pregnancy should be treated with care. In the event of accidental overdose, dextrose saline solution should be administered intravenously. Keep the animal cool. No systemic ill-effects are to be expected when animals are treated at the normal dose rates.
