Oxytetracycline HCl is a wide spectrum antibiotic, which is used for the treatment of local and systemic infections. Oxytetracycline has a bacteriostatic action against large number of Gram-negative, Gram-positive bacteria, Rickettsia, Mycoplasma,Chlamydia, Actinomyces and some protozoa as Anaplasma.
The bacteriostatic effect is based on the inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis by binding with 30S ribosomal subunit.
